7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Emergency in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara
On 15 August 2026 (5:58 AM WITA), a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck an area near Mbay, Nagekeo Regency. The tremors were felt across Flores and triggered a tsunami warning, which was later lifted.
Impact & Current Situation:
- - Casualties & Damage: The earthquake has claimed lives, caused injuries, and damaged homes and public facilities.
- - Thousands Displaced: Residents are now being accommodated at temporary evacuation centres.
- - Disrupted Access: Damaged roads, power outages, and disruptions to communication and transportation are making it difficult to deliver essential aid.
- - Ongoing Threat: Aftershocks are still occurring, posing a risk of further damage or collapse to already affected structures.
